How We Achieve Freshness: ICE, ICE, ICE!

At Wellington Seamarket, we take all measures to ensure quality. Keeping a high standard of fresh fish takes effort across the board. It begins with our own boats, icing the fish as soon as it hits the deck! This keeps the fish at top condition for when it lands.

Our boats do short trips out to the Cook Strait, Paremata and the Westcoast, meaning the fish is not on board too long. Then it hits our shore where it is handled carefully, re-iced and stacked into our chiller, running at well below zero! It doesn’t stay there for long though. From there it is processed through our factory, filleted by experts to maximise recovery. This stage is imperative!

Only ask someone that has tangoed with filleting a fish before, and they’ll tell you how easy it is to butcher it. From there, it goes straight to our shops and slapped onto our fish window, a marvel of sculptured ice and New Zealand’s best seafood!

What customers have to say

Since moving from Rotorua to Wellington I had given up on Fish and Chip shops but then I found Wellington Sea Market!
Tasty food, great customer service and decent prices. Will be recommending to others . Magenta Mudgway

One of the best fish & chips of Wellington. Wide range of fish, fresh & smoked
Marc Giovannoni

I’ve eaten at many a fish ‘n chip shop in my time on this earth, and not many have delivered both quality and quantity like this place has. I’d definitely recommend this place. Elizabeth Hocking
